Join the Prison Libraries Project

We welcome new members and community support for our work. The volunteers below will help you get involved in our different projects. All contacts listed can be reached by emailing us at As volunteers, we try to respond to requests and questions within a week of contact.

Allison Sivak and Liz Fulton-Lyne: Co-Chairs

In addition to volunteering in various capacities, Liz and Allison communicate with correctional staff and advise on overall operations. They attend GELA executive meetings and participate in advocacy and outreach initiatives on behalf of the project.

Liz Dennett: Communications and Volunteer Coordinator

Liz monitors email, responds to inquiries, and connects prospective volunteers with project coordinators.

Michelle De Agostini : Treasurer

Michelle organizes our accounting, liaises with the Treasurer of GELA, and meets with the GELA Executive and auditor at least once a year to ensure good financial practices and communication.

Ashley Eisen and Sara Buczynski: Book Clubs at Edmonton Institution for Women

Ashley and Sara coordinate book clubs that take place monthly at the Edmonton Institution for Women.

Fairfax Culpepper: Book Clubs at Edmonton Remand Centre

Fairfax coordinates book clubs that take place monthly at the Edmonton Remand Centre.

Meg DeForest: Edmonton Public Library Book Borrowing Project

Meg works on behalf of EPL to coordinate with correctional staff and inmate librarians to bring in requested materials from the Edmonton Public Library.

Jessica Thorlakson: Writing Club Coordinator and Edmonton Remand Centre Liaison

Jessica coordinates writing clubs at Edmonton Remand Centre, and manages scheduling and communications with ERC for various programs (writing clubs, book clubs, and resume writing workshops).

Sharla Funk: Storybook Project

Sharla coordinates the Storybook Project in the minimum, main and secure units at the Edmonton Institution for Women.

Robyn Gray: Collections

Robyn leads collection development, maintains the donations wish lists, and liaises with donors.

Carmen Reems: Edmonton Institution

Carmen leads the development of the library at the Edmonton Institution.
