Join the Prison Libraries Project

We welcome new members, ideas for new projects, and community support for our work. The volunteers below will help you get involved in projects that are currently running. All contacts listed can be reached by emailing us at gelaprisonproject@gmail.com. As volunteers, we try to respond to requests and questions within a week of contact.

Allison Sivak (she/her): Chair

In addition to volunteering in various capacities, Allison communicates with correctional staff and advises on project overall operations. She attends GELA executive meetings and participates in advocacy and outreach initiatives on behalf of the project.

Allison also coordinates the Storybook Project in the minimum, main and secure units at the Edmonton Institution for Women.

Jessica Thorlakson (they/she): Creative Writing Workshops Coordinator

Jessica coordinates Creative Writing Workshops at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
