GELA Professionals Buddies – Call for Mentors

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) is pleased to once again present the Professional Buddies Mentorship Program! We hope to link experienced professionals with students, new graduates, and other community members with an interest in a career in libraries. We seek to provide an opportunity to share advice, review CVs, and ask questions!

This year, we’re doing the matches a little differently: we’re asking potential mentors to provide short professional profiles. Then, we’ll anonymize the profiles and allow prospective mentees to select their own mentor match on a first-come first-choice basis. We welcome mentors of all experience levels, from early-career to retired information professionals.

GELA will host a social event to launch the program on October 27th, 2016 at 7:30pm (more details to come) where mentors & mentees can meet up. Participants are also encouraged to arrange their own informal meet-ups, or have conversations remotely. The mentorship program is intended to be open and casual. No GELA membership is required to participate, although joining GELA is always encouraged.

Please note: This applications is for MENTORS ONLY. The mentee sign-up will open in early-October. Feel free to email with any questions.

*** Deadline Extended! ***

GELA Prison Volunteers on CTV

Four GELA volunteers at the Edmonton Remand Centre visit monthly to host a writing workshop in the institution’s two bootcamp units. Alberta Prime Time hung out with us one afternoon, and made this short piece!

Thank you to Danny Baldassarre from CTV, and our four super volunteers: Nicole Moeller, Jessica Peverett, Allison Sivak, and Jessica Thorlakson.
