GELA Game Night

Join us for a fun evening out of the cold! The Greater Edmonton Library Association will be hosting a board game night at Table Top Cafe 2.0 on 124th Street. We start at 7:00pm, and drop-in’s are welcome. Kids, partners, and friends are also welcome!

Tickets available below, and at the door. Once again, we’ve included a discounted membership rate, so renew your annual GELA membership for 2017 now!

Our Game Night fundraiser will support the Prison Project YA Book Club. Founded in 2007, GELA’s Prison Subcommittee is a fully volunteer run group that provides library services and resources to Edmonton-area correctional facilities. You can read more about the Prison Project here:

Proceeds will go towards a newer initiative, the YA Book Club. Monetary donations are especially important for book clubs, because we rarely receive enough copies of the same book in donations. The funds will also allow GELA librarians to selectively purchase books that are in demand, and represent the diverse experiences of the readers.

Unfortunately, GELA does not have the capacity to offer tax receipts as of yet. But your support will be very impactful: each copy of the books purchased will be read by at least 4 readers! Help us reach our fundraising goals & get some great swag in the process! Bidding will go on all evening, and we hope something will catch your eye!

Date: Thursday, February 23, 2017
Time: 7:00pm onwards

  • Adult Ticket: $10 (unlimited gaming + 1 non-alcoholic drink + shared snacks)

GELA – Fall Social

The leaves have turned and fallen, the holiday season is fast upon us; these are all good reasons for a drink and good time with library folks.  Join us for another social at the Underground Tap and Grill on November 17th starting at 5pm. This is a casual, “come and go as you can” event and feel free to bring friends, significant others. Non-members need not be shy either!  To keep up to date there is a Facebook Event Page you can join.

For any questions email Hope to see you there!

GELA Professionals Buddies – Call for Mentees

Calling all Mentees! It’s time to pick your mentor!

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) is pleased to once again present the Professional Buddies Mentorship Program! We hope to link experienced professionals with students, new graduates, and other community members with an interest in a career in libraries. We seek to provide an opportunity to share advice, review CVs, and ask questions!

At the link below you will be able to pick a mentor based on their brief anonymous bio. Act fast as spaces are limited!

GELA will host a social event to launch the program on October 27th, 2016 at 7:30pm (more details to come) where mentors & mentees can meet up. Participants are also encouraged to arrange their own informal meet-ups, or have conversations remotely. The mentorship program is intended to be open and casual. No GELA membership is required to participate, although joining GELA is always encouraged.
