GELA AGM 2017

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) has paired up with the Library and Information Studies Alumni Association (LISAA) for a second year to host the Annual General Meetings of both organizations on Tuesday, May 30th at the TEC Edmonton Innovation District (Main Floor, Enterprise Square, 10230 Jasper Ave.) After the meetings have concluded, we will be convening at The Hat Resto Pub for a post-AGM(s) social event!

We are also seeking nominations for several GELA Executive positions. Please see our GELA Executive Nominations post for more information about on available positions and how to submit nominations. Nominations are due May 12th.

GELA Executive Nominations

The Greater Edmonton Library Association (GELA) is seeking nominations for the following positions on the GELA Executive Committee:

  • Vice-President/President Elect/Past President (3 year commitment)
  • President Elect/Past-President (2 year commitment)
  • Program Councillor (2 year commitment)
  • Publicity Councillor (2 year commitment)
  • Student Representative from U of A SLIS (1 year commitment)
  • Student Representative from MacEwan University LIT program (1 year commitment)

To nominate yourself, please send an email to the chair of the Nominating Committee, Kalin Jensen (kalinj@nait.ca), indicating the position you are interested in, as well as a short bio (200 words). The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 12th. Nominations received after May 12th will be added to the ballot as nominations from the floor.

The election for the Executive positions will be held at the GELA AGM on May 30th. The student representatives will be chosen by the current Executive prior to the AGM.

If you’re excited about the Greater Edmonton library community and would like to contribute to it, we encourage you to consider nominating yourself as a candidate for any of these positions.

GELA Professional Development Grant

GELA is now accepting applications for its 2017 Professional Development Grant.

Each year, GELA awards up to $300 to a GELA member to participate in or attend library-related conferences, workshops, seminars, or lectures.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2017.

The grant recipient will be chosen in the beginning of April and applicants will be contacted at that time. The recipient will also be announced at GELA’s 2016 Annual General Meeting (TBA).

  2. Complete the application form and include a description of the conference, workshop, seminar, or lecture that you wish to attend.

* If you are not a current GELA member or if you need to renew your membership, you may submit your membership form along with your PD Grant application. Please email treasurer@gela.ca if you are unsure of your membership status.

Members of the GELA executive are not eligible to apply for this grant.
